About Us

Organized in July 1998, PeriOptimum strongly believes in the power of intelligent information technology tools and analytical support services.  These tools and services improve surgical throughput, which ultimately leads to financial gain and stability.

Our services are structured into two groups – technology and consulting – that allow our team to support and improve workflow.  Our Consulting Services include exhaustive analysis that targets improvements in throughput, revenue, cost control, staffing and scheduling for hospital operating room services.  Our technology service includes PathFinder®, a proprietary real-time patient tracking system.  This system provides a visual representation of surgical workflow allowing managers, doctors and nurses to communicate efficiently and effectively in real time.

Our perioperative tools and services are based on the academic research of Dr. W. David Watkins.  Dr. Watkins, in his research, quantified the opportunities for growth when perioperative process efficiencies and improved staffing utilization is attained.  Instrumental in the implementation of Dr. Watkins’ research, Mr. Hakan Ilkin developed PeriOptimum’s first automated patient tracking system, which led to the development of PathFinder®.

Watkins and Ilkin created PeriOptimum’s perioperative improvement tools based on principles learned in academic and surgical service settings including the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Duke University Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital.  These principles allow us to continue to lead the industry in improving surgical throughput by making perioperative workflow visible.
